Injectables Q & A

What are injectables?

Injectables are medical treatments designed to address issues like wrinkles, lines, scars, and areas of decreased volume without surgery. Today’s injectables use a variety of materials to achieve optimal results in every area of the face.

How does Botox® work?

Botox works on “dynamic” wrinkles - lines that form when we make facial expressions like smiling or frowning. Over time, repeated movements can etch lines deeply into the skin. Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that “tell” facial muscles to contract, preventing lines from forming.

Results last for about 4 months, after which they can be repeated. Botox injections are used to treat crow’s feet, forehead and frown lines, and sometimes the tiny lines around the edges of the mouth.

What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm is a cosmetic filler used to fill lines and wrinkles in the face as well as add volume to the lips and cheeks. In addition to adding immediate volume to “plump up” lines, scars, and other areas, Juvederm promotes collagen production for long-lasting benefits.

How are injections administered?

First, the treatment area is evaluated to determine the best placement for the injections. A topical anesthetic may be used for some fillers, while others contain lidocaine to numb the area and reduce discomfort.

Depending on the area being injected, multiple injection sites may be used to ensure the product is evenly dispersed. Injections can take as little as 10 minutes or closer to an hour depending on the area you want to treat. There’s also little to no downtime, so patients are able to resume their regular activities afterward.

Are injectable treatments safe?

Yes, injectable treatments are very safe; in fact, the right combination of injectables can enable many women and men to enjoy many of the same benefits of a “mini facelift” but without the risks, downtime, and cost.
